Vitae
Hidehiko Adachi was born in Kyoto in 1971. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, in 1995 and completed his master’s degree at the university’s Graduate School of Law in 1997. He subsequently received a DAAD scholarship and pursued doctoral studies at Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel) in Germany under the supervision of Professor Dr. Robert Alexy. He was subsequently awarded a Doctor of Laws (Dr. iur.) by Kiel University in 2005.

Adachi joined the Faculty of Law at Kanazawa University as an associate professor in 2004 and was promoted to full professor in 2011. Since 2022, he has served as the representative of IVR Japan and became Dean of the Graduate School of Law at Kanazawa University in 2024.

During his time at Kiel University, Adachi collaborated with Nils Teifke to transcribe and annotate Gustav Radbruch’s 1919 lecture Rechtsphilosophische Tagesfragen (Current Problems of the Philosophy of Law), delivered at Kiel University. He later completed his doctoral dissertation on the Radbruchsche Formel (Radbruch’s Formula). Since then, his research has focused on modern and contemporary German legal philosophy, with a growing emphasis on the logical analysis of fundamental concepts in law, morality, and justice.
